Auckland Helicopter Rescue

Even though we don't go to Playcentre on Fridays, we asked, and consequently, were welcomed to be part of their field trip this term - a visit to the Auckland Helicopter Rescue base.

S4: "Look at those propellers - they are long!"
A Police helicopter landed during our visit.

Things we learnt that might or might not be on their website:
1) The chopper flies out with 3 members: the Pilot, the Paramedic and the Crewman
2) There's only one Rescue Helicopter that services the 1.4million population of Auckland City (though they'd be called out to as far as Rotorua/Taupo, which is an hour's flight away)
3) There is a backup yellow helicopter, which is dubbed the Bumble Bee.
4) It is a service free of charge and available to all, yet they receive no direct funding from the government, but relies on the community support/donations.
