At The Library

While I was busy choosing a selection such as these (admittedly, more for my interest with the exception of that Captain Cal one)

round the corner came N3 with this, declaring confidently, "I like this one."

I'd wondered if the boys are too young for the Narnia series, plus I myself haven't read any of it, nor watched the movies. I wonder what attracted him to this book? Perhaps it was the swords? Anyhow, N3 had reckoned from the cover illustration that these four were good people, or "kindies".

A wonderfully illustrated version, as can be seen below. So, does it matter we're not reading the series in the right order? Too late, this was one of the bedtime stories read tonight.

i remember discovering Narnia as a kid, and i thought that my dad had read them to us - but when i chatted to him about it the other day he thinks he didn't - they are SUPERB read-to books, and we have spent many happy hours reading and re-reading the series as a family and as individuals.

my kids continue to get the story CDs outta the library.
and now the movies are appearing! so endearing.

i'm a big fan of reading the book before ya see the movie, cos i think that it's wonderful to "create" the world of Narnia (or whatever) in our own head first, then watch someone else's interpretation of it.
the 2 films that Andrew Adamson has already made are FABULOUS - we are all totally in *love* with Lucy.

i'd suggest reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe next - it's the iconic book imnsho.

ohgosh, after all my raving, i hope you love them as much as we do!!!

Indeed Nova, the boys are just drinking in the illustrations.

Katie, yes! I haven't seen the movies precisely because I have never read the stories. While the illustrated books help capture the boys' attention, I wonder though, if that itself has taken out some aspects of the visualisation bit for them?
And yes, we love it. Narnia featured heavily in the boys' play this afternoon.
And yeah, we also got out TLTWATW - we're up to the Turkish delight chapter now.
