A week spent with Granddad and Grandma (and Uncle B and Aunty K were in the party too for two nights) at Hihi (pronounced hee-hee) Beach where Granddad had booked a comfortable 3 bedroom bach.
But it took us a while to actually swim at the beach we were only two minutes walk from...
...after a day trip to the stunning Matauri Bay (note I forgot to take the camera so this pic was actually from February last year, such a stark contrast to be there in January for it was a whole lot more crowded)

...ending the day with a takeaway meal from The World Famous Fish & Chip shop
...another day trip to Taipa Bay (like Hihi and Mangonui, this is part of the holiday paradise known as Doubtless Bay). Here we are at the estuary part.

Finally, one late afternoon, and the next, and... we dipped into the closest beach to our accommodation :)

and we captured the sunset that Hihi is apparently famed for.

Dh grew up camping at Tokerau, around the bay from Taipa. We camped at Taipa before we even got married - bet the campground isn't even there anymore.
