My attempt at being organised was thwarted when the cake I baked last night stuck to the tin so I was off to bake again first thing this morning. I'd never had any problem with cake sticking to the tin since discovering the use of baking paper, but using it was not an option when baking a novelty shaped cake, is it? I am not so sure now - it would have saved me time, and I wouldn't be having so much broken cake in the freezer now. 2nd cake turned out much better, though some still stuck to the tin so that I had to scrape it off as carefully as possible to plaster on top of the rest of the cake. By that time I was just plain grumpy, and with a bit of pressure from Peps, I decided to abandon the prep that still needed to be done for tomorrow's Long Bay outing - so off we trotted to Orewa Beach. After all, summer days are about sun, sand and surf, not merely barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.
No camera so just phone pxt:

And we still got the cake decorated by 10.30pm. (Really good given that we'd stayed up till the wee hours of the morning to ice/decorate some of the other birthday cakes in the past.)
Now, anyone has a yummy trifle recipe I can have? I have never made a trifle before and there are plenty of chocolate cake (ie not in one piece) in the freezer that needs to be used up :)
