The boys were introduced to "early reader" books on Wednesday. Today, in our play school, Mrs Pepper helped them make their own early readers.
Now I just went to look for S6's book, but do you think I can find it? My endless nagging of the children to put their things away has not fallen on deaf ears after all. Obviously N4 still needs to be reminded, as his book was lying on the carpet in a corner of the lounge.
N4 dictated and Mrs Pepper wrote it out for him, sometimes with wriggly baby on the hips (just to explain why her handwriting was shocking at times).

Mrs Pepper enquired, "I like roads?"
Mrs Pepper enquired, "I like trees?"
N4's response:

Mrs Pepper enquired, "I like going to the beach?"
N4's response:

S6 was more simplistic in his narration, though that could be because he had to write it himself? He learned about using full stops at the end of sentences, not in the middle, after "I LiKE" and the appropriate place to put the full stop ie not in line with the middle stroke of the uppercase E. Mrs Pepper did not, however, correct him about writing in uppercase.
Guess what? They loved playing school and wish to do it again. So Mrs Pepper said next time we will continue with the "I like" series (for she thought this a good way to help S6 learn this high frequency word, through writing and reading), and the theme will be on the food that they like.
Secretly, Mrs Pepper is not sure if she can keep up with playing school!
