Unusual for us to be camping in Jan, but alas Pep's boss would not let him take time off in Feb. So no Matauri Bay this year (I really missed camping on the beach front when I needed to be with sleeping J-zero in the tent while the others went to the beach about 10 minutes walk away), but the bonus is that we got to camp with friends.

Friends who are well set up too. Toasting marshmallow is now added to our camping must-do.

This is the camping I missed the last three years of Feb camping when friends were back at work/school. I love the whole night time sitting outside in the cold (it was C.O.L.D the first two nights, as in refrigerator cold. Must pack woollen socks for camping from now on just in case), fellowshipping with friends over hot chocolate, laughing and singing.
And cooking up freshly caught fish (thanks to friendly neighbours who shared their catch) in the dark.

The 10-minute walk through the sand dunes to the beach which I'm not fond of about camping at Ruakaka with a baby.

Truly grateful for beaches that aren't like this one in Italy that friends experienced - look at all the space we get to enjoy!
The trainers (plus one two-wheeler biker) - do excuse our children with no helmets (on the list of things to purchase, promise!)

A truly fabulous time for the kids,

Looks like you had a lovely time. We camped at Ruakaka a few years ago and it's nice there. We drove to the beach though lol. The estuary is good for the kids to swim in there.
