Cakes and Salad

Foodie post today. Nothing on Julie Powell though (that one is quite an amazing journey it seems. I just googled her cos' my friend Joanne told me she had thought of me when she watched the movie Julie & Julia).

So here's our impromptu "High Tea" party. I do realise that this is incorrect usage of the term which actually refers to a substantial meal at around dinner time, and that it was also known as Meat Tea (how un-classy if you ask me) but you gotta admit High Tea sounds way more exciting and elegant than Afternoon Tea. Anyway, it was the middle of the week, and I had been meaning to take a picture and blog about my birthday pressie from the fabulous Pippa, made by her! In an effort to make for a more interesting blog post I decided to make an event of it - so the children got a special treat that afternoon.

See that cupcake stand? That was the inspiration for the High Tea. Isn't Pippa clever?

While I covet a KitchenAid or a nifty machine I saw in action early this month - the name of which I cannot remember and I can't find it on google - it's a food processor, a weighing scale and a cooking appliance all in one for the price of two thousand and more! - the truth is I had never owned a food processor. So let's just start small. A Trade Me bargain kind of small. An oldie (and a goodie, I hope).

So I have been having fun with the grating attachment on the food processor. An easy ABC salad to boost your consumption of raw food: grated Apples, Beetroot and Carrots. Mix together, toss in whatever else you like (but if your children don't like to eat greens, maybe they will try this since it's a vibrant red and orange dish, especially if you omit the parsley and/or salad greens).
